Etats-Unis : Une femme a été innocentée après 17 ans derrière les barreaux

Susan Mellen, 59 ans, avait été condamnée en 1997 à la perpétuité pour le meurtre d’un homme à Los Angeles.
Vendredi et grâce à une organisation, qui milite pour la défense des personnes innocentes et emprisonnées à tort « Innocence matters », Madame Mellen a été acquittée et remise en liberté après 17 ans derrière les barreaux.

Il a été démontré par son avocate Deirdre O’Connor, que June Patti, qui avait été un témoin clé à l’époque contre sa cliente, avait fait un faux témoignage. Le juge Mark Arnold du tribunal supérieur de Los Angeles a déclaré que Susan Mellen avait été victime d’une erreur judiciaire suite aux faux aveux de Madame Patti d’où sa déculpabilisation de cette affaire de meurtre et sa libération immédiate.

L’annonce de la libération de Susan Mellen a été un réel soulagement pour sa famille, ses proches et les responsables de l’organisation Innocence matters, qui n’ont pas arrêté, depuis plusieurs années, de crier haut et fort son innocence. Mme Mellen avait été privée de ses trois enfants et de sa famille pendant 17 longues années et voilà qu’aujourd’hui, elle retrouve sa liberté à 59 ans. Selon des informations de l’AP.
